WINGED BOOT AWARD

WINGED BOOT AWARD

Code: 2/30/288
A correct copy of a British made "Order of the Winged Boot" awarded to US Airmen who were shot down behind enemy lines and then walked back to their air base without a visit to a POW camp. Has correct loops and not a pin back. This was a very highly prized unofficial insignia. It was worn on the left side under the jacket lapel because it was not official. But anyone could see the lapel raised up a bit and knew this was an airmen that made it back.

WWII JUAREZ PILOTS WING

WWII JUAREZ PILOTS WING

Code: 2/30/350
Replica Juarez Pilot Wings - Both of the Juaraz wings look alike from the front but do differ on the backside and what they are made form. These are both Juarez wings. Many Airmen trained in Texas and they would wander on a pass to the border town of Juarez, Mexico for less just say R&R. Well the jewelers also wanted some of that American money and started making wings for the Airman in a slightly larger and different design. The first ones were made form melting coins and are marked "COIN SILVER." I can only guess but some US Solider wanted sterling just like he got on the US Side and said coin silver was worth less. So they made the second version but notice the back is no longer flat and has an indent behind the shield and therefor weights less. Actually 1.2 grams less and since coin silver is 90% pure and sterling is 92.5% pure, you guess it the stering was cheaper to make. Yet I am willing to bet they charged more. Also note that this wing was used as the back wing to make the WASP W-7 Wing.

AAF CRASH BOAT PIN

AAF CRASH BOAT PIN

Code: 2/30/344
The US Army has more boats than the Navy and the Army has more aircraft than the Air Force, so why shouldn't the Air Force have its own Navy. Years ago the Air Force did have some boats that sure looked a lot like PT Boats of WWII fame. But these were very limited in use to rescue of air crews along the coast of the US where a lot of flying and training took place. The crews on these boats had unofficial wings just as the PT boats did during the war. There were two types of these pins, they looked the same except for the letters on the bow either AAF or USAF. This is a reproduction of the AAF pin that is prior to 1947 and is 2 3/8 inches long with pin back.
